Business Interpreting - we aim to ensure that all our interpreters fully understand the occupational context of your meeting and that they have the experience to operate under difficult conditions if necessary. We can offer interpreting for a wide range of business uses; negotiations, meetings, conferences, video conferencing, entertaining, greeting, telephone and more.

Public Service Interpreting - this is where our interpreters communicate between members of the public and such public services as the police, social services, the legal and medical professions, courts, immigration and a variety of local government functions.

Media Interpreting - for voice overs and other audio based assignments.

Our interpreters are able to offer all interpreting techniques:

Consecutive Interpreting - where our interpreters translates or summarises (in total or in sections) after a speaker has contributed to the conversation. This technique is appropriate for one-to-one and small informal group interpreting. This is the slowest of techniques as all contributions to the conversation are repeated in real time.

Simultaneous Interpreting - This is the technique that requires the highest level of interpreting skill and may require the use of equipment. The interpreter's version is given almost at the same time as the original source. There may be a slight delay only as long as it takes for the interpreter to digest the meaning of the source. This technique is favoured for all formal meetings, since it all but eliminates the time lag. Whispered Interpreting/Chuchotage is also available.

CULTURAL BRIEFING

ABC Languages is able to provide a cultural briefing for clients who wish to make a trip overseas where they may well encounter people with totally different sets of attitudes and values from their own.

Why would I need a cultural briefing? If you are not experienced in the business and social customs of people with whom you are intending to trade or co-operate with, you may want to seek the advice of our professional cultural briefing consultants. You shoudl be ready, not only to behave in a way that will be acceptable in a different culture, but also to understand that some features of that culture may be offensive to you.

ABC Languages can provide preparation to deal with the target culture by way of single day consultancy, mulitple day consultancy or 'by the hour' consultations for smaller assignments. A short business trip abroad at one end of the scale, may merit only a short briefing. At the other end of the scale, entering into a negotiation with a multi-million pound contract at stake or moving a family into another part of the world, will require an in depth approach with one of our experts on that country, if it is to add real value to your business or relocation.

TRANSLATION
